DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

MANDATE

The Department of Community Development is responsible for facilitating community-driven development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting self-reliance, and reducing poverty among vulnerable and marginalized groups in Mazabuka District.

CORE FUNCTIONS

The core functions of the Department of Community Development include:

1. Food Security Pack Programme: Implementing initiatives to support vulnerable households with agricultural inputs and improve household food security.
2. Community Self-Help Programme: Promoting community participation, collective action, and utilization of local resources for development.
3. Women’s Livelihood Initiatives: Supporting economic empowerment, income generation, and skills development for women.
4. Community Mobilization and Capacity Building: Strengthening community structures and building local capacities for sustainable development.

APPROACH

The Department works in collaboration with community-based structures, traditional leadership, local authorities, and cooperating partners to ensure inclusive, sustainable, and people-centred development.
