Mazabuka District is located in the Southern Province of Zambia along the Great North Road. It is about 125 km by road from Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It is about 360 km from Livingstone City, the tourist Capital of Zambia and about 160 km from the provincial capital, Choma.

The district is centrally located and is the home of Zambia Sugar Plc. Some people call it the sweetest town because of having the biggest sugar plantation in Zambia. It is endowed with good natural mineral resources. To the Northern side we have the Kafue River that runs all the way up to the copper belt region in the copper belt province.

According to the Central Statistical Office Report of the 2010 census, Mazabuka district had a total population of 171,063 people and an average annual growth rate of about 2.5 % as of the year 2010.The district currently has a total population of 224,448 with a growth rate of 1.2% per annum. The total population therefore is distributed as follows; 94,755 for the Urban area and 102,086 for the rural area.

Mazabuka town has been growing steadily absorbing immigrants from the region and from other district, including Kafue and Monze who came to look for employment in Zambia Sugar Company and other companies around including government departments.

This has resulted in the increased demand for land from the people. Hence the need to open up this town for development.
