Mazabuka Municipal Council yesterday on 23rd August, 2024 held a successful Cash for Work Orientation meeting in collaboration with the District Commissioner’s office.
The Government of the Republic of Zambia is implementing the Cash for Work (CFW) programme in response to the drought experienced in the 2023/2024 farming season.
The Cash for Work (CFW) Programme aims to provide relief to drought-affected communities and urban areas impacted by food price increases and job losses. By offering cash in exchange for labor, the programme empowers individuals to purchase essential food items, thereby alleviating vulnerability and supporting their well-being during this challenging time.
This programme demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the far-reaching consequences of drought and economic hardship. By supporting individuals and communities in need, the Government of Zambia is helping to mitigate the effects of these challenges and promote resilience.
So the Cash for Work (CFW) program is specifically designed to reach vulnerable households in areas not already covered by existing social cash transfer programs (SCT and ECT). This ensures that support is extended to a broader range of affected communities.
By implementing the CFW programme, the Government of Zambia is taking a comprehensive approach to address the economic impacts of drought and support vulnerable populations. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to reaching those in greatest need and stimulating local economies through community-based public works projects.
The Orientation meeting was attended by His Worship the Mayor of Mazabuka, Mr. Vincent Lilanda, Mazabuka DC, Mr. Oliver Mulomba, the Town Clerk, Mrs Judith Mukwita Maambo, Councilors, WDC Chairpersons, Satellite Disaster Management Committee members and other government officials.
